THE WILD EAST

For the collection called „THE WILD EAST“ Morris Manser breaks down the design ethos „emotionally durable design“ to a few core elements. The designer wants to show that affection is subjective and can be found everywhere. So the core elements of the collection are the heart, goat droppings and the personal experiences lived in Appenzell and Basel.

The heart as the seemingly absolute symbol of affection and love, into which, however, everyone personally puts the meaning and uses it differently in different situations. The goat droppings as luxurious embellishing elements to show the ironic way how an emotional affection can be built to an object that at first sight has none and therefore gains value.

Each design is created upon lived experiences.Traditional costumes are referenced in the pattern making. Traditional handicraft techniques such as knitting, weaving and ‚ziselieren‘ are used in the realisation of the silhouettes.

The visual impression of the silhouettes is a ‚cowboy de notre temps‘ right be- fore the showdown. The instance right before the colts are drawn is a moment full of tension, that pronounce the importance of time and how rural regions could be the example to decelerate the cities of today. The individual is a progressive thinking, strong and forward going person.

For the collection, almost exclusively deadstock fabrics are used and sourced locally.
